Description: On February 24th, 2026, Fort Worth's City Council approved approved an ordinance establishing safety zones around areas where children commonly gather. Under Ordinance 26-5721, sex offenders with child victims cannot establish a permanent or temporary residence within 2,000 feet of a school, day-care facility, park, playground, public swimming pool, youth center, community center or public library. This data depicts approximate Child Safety Zones developed by Fort Worth staff by creating 2,000 foot buffers around several separate data sources (Schools from TEPSAC and TEA, Child Care Facilities from Texas HHS, Community Centers and Parks from Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department, Libraries from Fort Worth IT Solutions Department, Existing Landuse from Fort Worth City Manager's Office, and Building Permits from Fort Worth Development Services Department). This feature class is derived from several city data sources. ADM_SCHOOLS, SRV_CHILD_CARE_FACILITIES, SRV_COMMUNITY_CENTERS, and SRV_LIBRARIES are overlaid onto CAD_PARCELS_VIEW and the parcel geometry is used for tracking these locations. LND_EXIST_PARK_BOUNDARIES is used as is. LND_EXISTING_LANDUSE_2024 is filtered to separate private parks and HOA/Recreation. CIVIC_ACCELA_PERMITS is filtered for commercial swimming pool permits and overlaid onto the HOA/Recreation records to approximate HOA clubhouse/pool locations. Private parks are used as is. 2000-ft linear buffers were created around the features described above and define the “child safety zones” within which certain sex offenders are prohibited from residing.
